Personal information:

Soo Wohn Leeis an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Environment and Chemical Engineering at Sun Moon University in Korea. His current research interests include microstructure design of Sialon Ceramics for multi-functional properties such as high thermal conductivity and high transparency, the development of photocatalysts by using nanocrystalline oxide ceramic powders, and electroplating of Ni-nano ceramic composites.

Professor Lee received his PhD degree in materials engineering from the University of Illinois— Chicago in 1986. After postdoctoral training, he researched the development of wear maps in advanced structural ceramics at the ceramics division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He then joined Sun Moon University as an assistant professor in 1993 and became a full professor in 2000.In 2009-2013, he had carried out the A3 foresight program among the Sun Moon University (Korea), the Nagaoka University of Technology (Japan) and the Wuhan University of Technology (China). Also he has been working the Global Research Laboratory (GRL) Program with the Osaka University since 2010 year. He received a Chime Bell Prize of the Hubei Province, China in October, 2014. He has organized international symposia on ecomaterials design and processes (ISEPD) from 2000 to 2024 and plans to organize the 22nd international symposium in January 2025 in Osaka, Japan. From 2005, he has been serving the general secretary of ISO/TC107 (Metallic and other Inorganic Coatings). Currently he is serving the Chair of ISO/TC107. Also he served the president of the IUMRS (International Union of materials Research Society) in 2017-2018. He was a conference chair of the IUMRS-ICAM2015 in October, 2015 in Jeju, Korea, and a conference chair of the IUMRS-ICAM2022 in August 3-8, 2012 in Mexico. Currently he is the chair of meeting commission of the IUMRS.
