摘要:
A challenging direction in the field of wetting behavior deals with the design of stable superhydrophilic surfaces of semiconductor metal oxides without UV irradiation, particularly for p-type materials. Among the very few materials that demonstrate a superhydrophilic character (for example, TiO2), UV irradiation usually is performed, but a recovery to the initial condition takes place upon storage in the dark in air. This problem actually limits their practical applications. Therefore, searching for alternative materials and designing unique structures exhibiting stable superhydrophilicity without UV irradiation is necessary.

We designed the vertically ordered Co3O4 hierachical nanorod arrays using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) combined with polystyrene (PS) monolayer colloidal crystals as templates, and the surface roughness and composition of nanorods can be adjusted continuously. The as-prepared nanorod arrays demonstrate stable superhydrophilicity without UV irradiation even after half a year, and the degree of superhydrophilicity can be modulated gradually by controlling deposition process and annealing condition.

Our results demonstrate a new stable superhydrophilic material without UV irradiation, and the perfect Co3O4 hierachical nanorod arrays may also find improved applications in the fields of field emission, catalysis, and lithium-ion batteries in the future.

简历:
My research fields primarily focus on the fundamental properties of one-dimensional (1D) metal (Bi, Sb, Co, etc) and semiconductor oxides (TiO2, Co3O4, ZnO, etc) nanoarrays and applications in gas sensors, optoelectronics, and catalysis fields. Major efforts are placed on developing the nanostructured arrays and their hierachical super-nanostructures by combining ordered templates (colloid spheres, anodic alumina membranes, and laser interference lithography) with various deposition technique (chemical vapor deposition, oblique angle deposition, pulsed laser deposition, and electrochemical deposition), and addressing their fundamental properties and the impact of structural complexity on specific functionalities, such as electronic transport, field emission, photocatalysis, surface wetting, etc.
