Abstract:
Graphene is a promising electrode material for electrochemical energy storage because of its unique properties, such high electric conductivity and good mechanical flexibility. One of the most popularly used methods of preparing graphene is chemical exfoliation of graphite, followed by reduction to remove oxygen-containing groups for restoring graphitic carbon structure. The chemical exfoliation approach allows mass production of graphene(strictly speaking, reduced graphene oxide), which can disperse in water as colloidal flakes. This colloidal dispersion makes it convenient for subsequent modifications. In this talk, I will discuss our recent research work on modification of graphene with conducting polymers, metal oxides, mesoporous carbon spheres, and carbon nanotubes. The electrocapacitive properties of the modified graphenematerials used as both symmetric and asymmetric supercapacitor electrodes will also be discussed.
