Personal information:
Dr. Wei Kong, a Principle Scientist from Preclinical COE at Ethicon. He has been with Johnson&Johnson for 18 years. As a preclinical representative and core team member, his responsibilities include interface with R&D project leaders to understand project scopes and needs, generate preclinical research strategies, develop animal models, and execute safety and efficacy evaluation of medical devices in accordance with regulatory requirements (ISO, GLP, FDA etc.) to advance projects.
He started his J&J career at Wound Healing Technology Resource Center (Johnson&Johnson) at Skillman, NJ in 1998, focusing on wound healing research and tissue engineering program. In 2001, he joined J&J Center for Biomaterial and Characterization (name was changed to CBAT/ATRM later on). He was in the preclinical functional group as a study director supporting tissue engineering scaffold, implantable device, local drug delivery, biomaterials, bioactive and cell base research projects. In 2012, He joined Ethicon Preclinical Research group (current Preclinical COE) as a Study Director, Surgeon, BUL and Project Director.
He was trained as a Neurosurgeon and had worked at Shandong Provincial hospital in China before going to the United States. Before he joined J&J, he had worked at Medical College of Ohio as a research fellow and focused on auditory neurotransmitter research in the Department of Otolaryngology.
